Piazza San Pietro (Rome)


Is one of the most famous squares in the world, located in front of the Basilica of San Pietro, built in honour of the first Pope, Apostle and martyr Peter, daily pilgrimage site for thousands of faithful from all over the world. Bernini designed the plant with the elliptical Colonnade, which was completed in 1667.

On the foci of the ellipse there are two fountains, the obelisk in the Centre of Heliopolis. The square, in the heart of Rome's historical centre, on the East Bank of the Tiber, is part of Vatican City, the city-state of the Holy See.
